Lectio Divina is a Latin term meaning "divine reading." It describes a method of reading the scriptures where we open ourselves to what God is saying to us in the present moment.
There are four "stages" in Lectio Divina:
- Lectio (reading): Read the Word of God slowly and reflectively
- Meditatio (reflection): Think about the text and reflect in order to receive what God intends to give us
- Oratio (response): Stop thinking and allow your heart to speak to God
- Contemplatio (rest): Let go of ideas, thoughts and meditations (including holy ones!) and rest in God's word; listen to God's voice
At first try, you may find this difficult. But fidelity to this prayer form will lead to a deeper prayer relationship with God.
